Weekend Wrap Sat 8 December
With the 2-day competition continuing our Men’s 1st-4th Grade started their matches against Queanbeyan, The women’s team played Eastlake and 5th Grade played North’s Blue at Harrison Oval. Unfortunately the Lioness’ went down at Kaleen, putting them just outside of the finals race with one round left in the Glenda Hall Shield and plenty of work to do next week against Weston Creek to qualify. The 5th grade took advantage of a flat track and a quick outfield at Harrison by scoring a huge 317 in 40 overs, a target that almost could not be eclipsed despite playing until past 7:00 pm 1st Grade are in the balance, with a reasonable score on the board after big knocks, no surprises, from Bartlett and Condon. 2nd Grade are also in the balance after bowling Queanbeyan out for less than 200 on day one and are 2-down overnight 3rd Grade have some work to do after being bowled out for a low score at Aranda with the other side making a good start on their chase.
4th Grade have had a successful day 1 after bowling out Queanbeyan and passing their score in the last over before stumps on day one, setting up what could be an interesting second innings out at Queanbeyan. With a few late finishes the teams wound up at the club later than usual but there were plenty of congratulations for Mathew McGann who played his 200th Grade match for Wests. 1st Grade WDUCCC 236 – 59.1 overs (M Condon 91, E Bartlett 82, M McGann 25) v QDCC 4/121 – 36.0 overs 2nd Grade QDCC 192 – 66.3 overs (M Minns 4/34, M Khan 3/31, R Van Aalst 2/56) v WDUCCC 2/40 – 33.0 overs (J Smith 23*) Womens WDUCCC 2/110 – 20 overs (C Taylor 52*, C Russell 21*) def by Eastlake 2/111 – 17.5 overs 3rd Grade WDUCCC 9/110 – 53.1 overs (W Tabrett 29*, D Whitelum 22*) v QDCC 1/54 – 24.0 overs 4th Grade QDCC 105 – 42.3 overs (J Rossendell 4/21, T Maitland 3/21, O Withers 3/22) v WDUCCC 6/109 – 34.0 overs (J Gladwin 70*) 5th Grade WDUCCC 4/317 – 40 overs (M Broers 100*, S Natarajan 92, R Selmes 90*) def NCGCC (B) 7/260 – 40 overs (K Bryant 3/38)
